Jacksons update

Very exciting visit to PRONI today. PRONI hold the “original” Griffith’s Valuation maps for Northern Ireland and a kind member of staff helped me locate the two I needed for Barnamaghery.

I was delighted to see that these rather dusty very large maps with very small detail do indeed have boundaries marked in red and numbered in red as well, meaning that locations can be matched to individuals.

The headline for me is that I have been able to identify the houses occupied (later) by Minnie Jackson and by Joseph Mckee. The large map I bought recently from NLS does not show the Mckee house so it must have erected between 1834 and 1864.

My intention is to mark the assorted Jackson holdings in Barnamaghery and thereabouts in red pen or pencil and then colour around those. There are not field boundaries on my 1834 map, though, so I will need to add those as carefully as I can.

This will be a long but worthy project.
